CMA PROGRAM OVERVIEW

San Bernardino Campus – CMA Program

  • Program Duration: 11 Weeks (includes 4 weeks of externship)
  • Theory: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM
  • Externship: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM

Upon successful completion of coursework and your externship, you’ll be prepared to support healthcare providers in any medical office—contributing to efficient, high-quality patient care.

Program Curriculum & Courses

CMAP120 – Medical Assisting Procedures and Patient Care

This course introduces the duties and responsibilities of a Clinical Medical Assistant in a healthcare facility. Upon completion, students will:

  • Understand basic patient care procedures (e.g., administering medications, providing first aid)
  • Learn Universal Precautions and how behaviors influence health
  • Practice vital sign measurement and anthropometric assessments
  • Study anatomy and physiology under supervised clinical experience

CMAP110 – Medical Assisting Procedures and Laboratory Techniques

This course focuses on basic clinical procedures, including:

  • Preparing patients for examinations
  • Collecting specimens and performing diagnostic tests
  • Reviewing infection control (Universal/Standard Precautions)
  • Reinforcing vital signs, anthropometric measurements, and anatomy & physiology

CMAP150 – Medical Assisting Clinical Externship

Designed to let students apply all classroom knowledge in a real-world healthcare setting:

  • Students receive an externship folder with timecards, evaluation forms, and a completion letter
  • Timecards must be completed each week and faxed or delivered to MCC
  • Evaluation forms and letters of completion must be returned the last day at the extern site
  • Successful completion of this externship signifies you have graduated from the CMA program

Certification Info

  • Penal Code Violations: Certain convictions may prevent CMA certification. Details shared during information meetings.
  • Live Scan Fingerprinting: Mandatory for all CMA certification applicants not previously cleared by Aide and Technician Certification Section (ATCS). This also applies to employees of certain Intermediate Care Facilities (DD, DDH, DDN).

Admission Requirements & Process

To enroll in the CMA Program, students must submit:

  1. MCC Application (Admission Office)
  2. Physical Exam with up-to-date immunizations
  3. CPR Certification for the healthcare provider/professional rescuer (MCC can provide if needed)
  4. A copy of Social Security card and valid ID
  5. A complete Live Scan form
  6. (Optional) Personal liability/health insurance—MCC does not provide coverage

PROGRAM POLICIES

Attendance

  • Students are expected to attend daily, on time.
  • Make-up classes are available only when absolutely necessary.

Applicants & Health Requirements

  • Must be in good health; a physical examination is required.
  • If a student’s physical or emotional health endangers patient well-being, admission will be denied or withdrawn.
