CNA PROGRAM OVERVIEW

A 160-Hour Intensive Training

  • 60 Hours of Theory & Lab Instruction
  • 100 Hours of Clinical Practical Training
  • Focus: Mastering the Six Principles of Care with hands-on skill-building

Upon successful completion of the theory, lab, and clinical requirements—and passing the Nurse Assistant course exam—you’ll qualify for the State Competency Test (CEP) to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).

Two Convenient Schedules

AM Program (5 Weeks)

All Campuses

  • Class Days: Monday – Friday
  • Theory Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Clinical Hours: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
PM Program (7 Weeks)

Riverside & Victorville Campuses

  • Theory Days: Tuesday – Thursday (6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
  • Clinical Days: Saturday – Sunday (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)

Specialized Pathways

CNA 101 — Long-Term Care (160 Hours)

  • Objective: Meets California requirements to take the State Certification Exam for CNAs.
  • Focus: Basic nursing theory and skills for elderly resident care (Nursing Homes).
  • Curriculum: Follows California’s state-approved CNA guidelines.

CNA 102 — Home Health Aide (40 Hours)

  • Prerequisite: CNA 101
  • Purpose: Prepares CNAs for certification as a Home Health Aide (by the California Department of Public Health).
  • Outcome: Ability to function as an entry-level HHA in home healthcare agencies.

CNA 103 — Acute Care (116 Hours)

  • Prerequisite: CNA 101
  • Focus: Advanced clinical skills in acute care hospital settings.
  • Structure: Integrates classroom theory with supervised hospital clinicals.

Certification Process

  • Federal Requirement (OBRA): All CNA program graduates must pass theory and clinical competency tests.
  • Exam Attempts: Up to 3 tries for the multiple-choice and skills performance components.
  • Certification Duration: 2-year validity for CNA certification.
  • Renewal: Requires 48 hours of continuing education + 8 hours of paid employment every 2 years.
    • Failure to renew requires retaking the course and the State Exam.

Note: Certain Penal Code Violations may prevent certification. Details provided at our info sessions.

Admission Requirements & Process

  1. MCC Application: Complete and submit before class start date.
  2. Physical Exam & Current Immunizations: Must be in good health.
  3. CPR Certification: For healthcare providers/professional rescuers (available if needed).
  4. Valid ID & Social Security Card
  5. Live Scan Fingerprinting: Mandatory background clearance.
  6. Optional Insurance: MCC does not provide personal liability/health coverage.

If a student’s health poses a risk to patient safety, they may be denied admission or withdrawn from the program.

PROGRAM POLICIES

Attendance

  • Daily, on-time attendance is mandatory.
  • Make-up classes are available only under special circumstances.

Grading

  • A 70% average is required for successful completion.

Dress Code

  • Medical scrubs and white shoes.
  • No acrylic nails; hair should be secured neatly.

Live Scan Requirements

  • All new or renewing CNA/HHA applicants not previously cleared by the Aide and Technician Certification Section (ATCS) must submit fingerprints via Live Scan.
  • Applies to certain Intermediate Care Facilities for the Developmentally Disabled (DD), too.
